Don't Forget The Past

The African Burial Ground is very important because
it tells us about our African roots. And it is worth
fighting for.

Without this burial ground you would have never
known that there were slaves in New York.People
often think that slavery was only in the south,
but it wasn't.The slaves who where there did not
pick crops.Instead slaves in New York where
construction workers and farmers.

The ABG was found when construction workers
where making the foundation for the Federal
Office Building. As the where building the foundation
they found the remains of Africans.
Historians estimate
there may have been
15,000-20,000 burials there.This
place was so important they had to go above and beyond
to show this to the public. It was also made a
Historical Landmark. The African remains where found
in 1991.

That was the best thing our nation did for our
fellow black and African people. It was made as
a
Historical Landmark in 1993.Now lets learn
more about our life, our culture, and our everday
life.

P.S.This is for my ancestors.

remember the past!
